Cape Town Facts & Tips

Cape Town is a winter rainfall region

Unlike the rest of the country, the Cape Town area, and the entire Western Cape, is a winter rainfall region. Being in the Southern Hemisphere, the South African winter stretches from about mid-May to mid-September. During this winter period, the rainfall significantly increases with storms lasting up to several days with anything from mild sprinkles to torrential downpours. That said, should your visit coincide with winter, bring along your rain gear.

Cape Point

Cape Point is part of the Table Mountain National Park and includes the famous Cape of Good Hope.

The entire park is comprised of a rich and diverse fauna and flora including fynbos, proteas, ericas in addition to buck, tortoises, baboons and a variety of birds and reptiles.

Visitors can enjoy spectacular scenery, the rich wildlife and magnificent views from the lookout point next to the old lighthouse built around 1914.

Visitors can enter the Park to visit Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope for a fee and visit the various bays, cliffs, lighthouse and souvenir shop and restaurant while in the park. We do not recommend feeding the baboons in any way.
